5 OneNote Tips to Boost Your Productivity

04 November 2025

OneNote is much more than just a digital notebook. Here are 5 quick tips to help you organise your ideas and collaborate effectively.

1. Take notes in a flash

Press Windows + N to create a quick note without even opening OneNote. Your ideas are automatically saved in the ‘Unfiled Notes’ section.

2. Keep OneNote always visible

Need to take notes while watching a video or reading a document? Use Ctrl + Alt + D to dock OneNote to the side of the screen. Handy for staying focused.

3. Add links to your files

Drag a file into OneNote or use Ctrl + K to insert a link to a local or online document. The result: fewer duplicates, more clarity.

4. Save time with templates

Create your own templates (checklists, reports, etc.) so you don't have to start from scratch every time. Access them via Insert > Page Templates.

5. Integrate OneNote with Teams

Add a OneNote notebook to a Teams tab to centralise project information. Ideal for collaborating with your team, even remotely.

Bonus tip: OneNote works perfectly with Microsoft 365, the ideal suite for SMEs looking to boost productivity.
