FAQ - IoT/M2M connectivity
An IoT/M2M e/SIM card enables professional equipment to connect to a mobile network in order to transmit data, SMS, and voice, without human intervention. It is used to connect machines, sensors, vehicles, terminals, automated systems or field equipment. In an IoT project, it ensures communication between connected objects and supervision platforms. DEEP’s IoT/M2M e/SIM cards allow companies to connect their equipment locally or internationally, with connectivity tailored to professional use cases.
An M2M e/SIM card and an IoT e/SIM card are very similar: both are used to connect equipment to a mobile network. M2M (Machine-to-Machine) refers to devices communicating directly with each other to exchange data and perform specific tasks, often with limited human intervention. IoT (Internet of Things) is a broader concept that connects devices, sensors, applications, and cloud platforms to collect, analyze, and act on data in real time. In practice, an M2M e/SIM card is often used as the connectivity foundation for an IoT project to create smarter, data-driven services and ecosystems.
A multi-operator IoT/M2M SIM card allows equipment to automatically connect to the most suitable mobile network, depending on its location and available coverage. This approach improves service continuity, especially for mobile equipment or devices deployed across several countries. It is particularly useful for logistics, automotive, e-charging, connected agriculture, industry or isolated equipment. With its multi-operator and multi-network SIM cards, DEEP helps companies secure the connectivity of their IoT/M2M projects. Unlike big groups, DEEP doesn’t enforce steering policies and let devices connect to the best network available.
An IoT/M2M solution can rely on several mobile networks depending on the needs of the project: 2G, 3G, 4G, 5G,LTE-M, NB-IoT, or NTN (non-terrestrial network) satellite. The choice depends on the volume of data to be transmitted, transmission frequency, equipment mobility, expected coverage and required performance level. A sensor that transmits small amounts of data will not have the same needs as industrial equipment, a connected vehicle or a real-time supervision solution. DEEP supports companies in choosing the connectivity best suited to their IoT/M2M use cases.
Supervising a fleet of M2M/IoT SIM cards allows companies to monitor consumption, detect anomalies, manage activations, configure alerts and optimize costs. It becomes essential as soon as a company deploys dozens, hundreds or thousands of connected devices. A centralized management platform makes it possible to manage e/SIM cards remotely and reduce the operational workload for teams. DEEP provides advanced management tools to monitor, analyze, and administer IoT/M2M usage more simply and efficiently.
To choose an M2M solution, start by defining your use case: equipment to be connected, deployment areas, mobility, data volume, security level, supervision needs and scalability requirements. You should also anticipate international deployment, network coverage, SIM card management and integration with your business tools. A good M2M solution must be reliable, scalable and easy to manage. DEEP supports companies in framing, testing and deploying their IoT/M2M connectivity, from the pilot phase to large-scale rollout.
