ENGIE Solutions: migration to the AWS Cloud with DEEP France

Engie Solutions has migrated its infrastructure to the AWS cloud with the support of DEEP France (formerly Digora). Let's take a look at the challenges and methods used during this project.

AWS migration to optimize IT

An agile, structured migration to the AWS cloud, based on a single-cloud strategy and a sprint method, to accelerate innovation while ensuring operational continuity.

Customer's field of activity :

Engie Solutions, part of the ENGIE group, supports cities, industry and the service sector in their energy transition; its 50,000 employees deliver turnkey solutions to optimize resources and make energy greener.

Support mode :

DEEP managed the entire migration: inventory, AWS design, automated supervision and MCO. Overall support by DEEP for cloud migration (Lift & Shift), implementation of cloud supervision and hybrid double run (on-premise + AWS).

Mission objectives

  • Modernize an aging IT infrastructure to guarantee group-wide performance, security and scalability.

  • Migrate over 800 servers and 100 applications to AWS as part of a single-cloud strategy driven by the IT department.

  • Reduce the time-to-market of business projects by adopting an agile methodology and progressive execution in sprint mode.

  • Deploy automated cloud supervision and ensure operational continuity via a dual hybrid run (on-premise / cloud).

The support process

Launch of a business plan in July 2020, recruitment of cloud profiles and choice of a single-cloud strategy with AWS, supported by a group framework contract.

Deployment of a sprint-based approach in Agile mode, with technical workshops to prepare each wave of Lift & Shift migration (servers, SQL and Oracle databases on EC2, BYOL to optimize costs).

Implementation of a new automated cloud supervision and management of a hybrid environment with a dual run on on-premise and AWS infrastructures.

Customer benefits

  • Guaranteed service continuity: the gradual migration had no significant impact on staff or end customers.
  • Increased agility and time-to-market: the new cloud infrastructure enables faster deployment of IT and business projects.

  • Enhanced visibility and control: automated cloud supervision for better control of hybrid environments.

  • Trusted partnership: comprehensive support provided by DEEP France (formerly Digora), a single point of contact throughout the transformation project.
